Macquarie Woods 3-Jul-11: Macquarie Woods Results Oaky Creek North 5-Jun-11: SL3 Middle Dist. and SL4 Long Distance 14/15-May-11: Results for both events available from Uringa Orienteers website. Our thanks to Ron Pallas for his efforts in processing both entries and results. Ophir South 10-Apr-11: Ophir South Results Clifton Grove Bush 13-Mar-11: SS #5 Bloomfield 4-Mar-11:A
fine morning brought out a good attendance at the first of our Bush
Series, including Jason from Penrith (how keen is that!). Phillip set
the courses and he opted for a mini-rogaine style for the Orange and Red
courses which suited the map area and made an excellent transition from
the last of the Summer Series at Bloomfield/ Gosling Creek. Thanks to
Basil and Jean who ran the event. Clifton Grove Results An excellent end to the 2011 Summer Series when 56 participants enjoyed
a fine evening in the Bloomfield-Gosling Ck area. A number of people
came along after visiting our stand at the Expo last week and found
their way around the line course alongside Gosling Creek. In the Men's Score course Rob pulled off another win - every control (1620 points) in 40m01s, just holding off David Baldwin, from Canberra, also with 1620 points but in 41m27s. In the Women's Score Julie Quinn, also from Canberra, blitzed the field with her 1620 points, well ahead of Bridget's respectable 2nd with 1280 points. Thanks to Michael for the course setting, he created some fresh options on familiar terrain. Dave S produced another great serving of BBQ sausages to restore us after the run. Certificates for the series were awarded, details to come. SS #4 Calare 25-Feb-11: SS #3 Bowen 18-Feb-11: Heavy rain early in the afternoon looked threatening but cleared
leaving fine conditions for 34 competitors to enjoy an evening run. One
control did have to be relocated out of a now flowing creek. We
welcomed two new families, and the return of other newbies for this
year. Rob's Score course certainly took us to the four corners of Bowen, at least for those chasing the seventy pointers. A few of us failed to plan carefully enough and realised too late there was no short cut to the Finish through St Marys school grounds. We paid heavily in penalty points for the longer trek on the roads! SS #2 Clover Hill 11-Feb-11: Not quite so warm this week, but not quite so many starters either -
too many competing attractions. We happily welcomed back some newcomers
from last week. The layout of the controls was deceptively challenging
for the Score course runners planning a high tally. With 'Rocket Rob' a
non-starter this week Basil was able to claim top place in the Men's
Score ranking with 1200 points. But in the Women's it was Carrie and
Nicole Williamson who came equal first overall with 1280 points. Stop watches at the ready! It's over, how did you go? Congratulations
to David Craig for his debut in course planning and setting. He
achieved that tricky balance of challenge and practicality. And thanks
again to Dave S for the BBQ. SS #1 Warrendine 4-Feb-11: Our 5 week Summer Series got off to a fine start on a warm evening with
41 participants, ranging, as usual from the club's top performers
through to the more leisurely contestants. The Orange Runners Club was
well represented and we look forward to seeing them again in the coming
weeks. They provided some good competition with their results all in
the upper echelon. Thanks to Basil and Jean for running the event and setting the courses. The Score course was almost 'inviting', certainly to those of us having our first run of the year! And thanks also to Dave for setting up and manning the BBQ, his sausages and onions were definitely inviting, once the heart rate was back to normal. He offered to take on BBQ duties at each Summer Series event. His offer has been accepted! 2010 End of Year Presentations: On
Sunday 28 November the rain worked against us for one more time this
year. Plan A - an outdoor event at CSU Campus was abandoned in favour
of Plan B - getting together at Margaret and Phillip's home at Clifton
Grove. Our sincere thanks to them for generously offering a last-minute
alternative and providing us with a warm and comfortable venue where we
could defy the weather! There was a good attendance from the club plus
our favourite cousins from Western Plains Dubbo, Sean, Karen, Kate and
Sam Hagan. After the BBQ our President Phillip awarded certificates and
medals to all those who had performed well in events during the year,
plus a few others to recognise special contributions to the club in
2010. And so a very pleasant evening wrapped up our activities for this
year. |
