Orienteering NSW is reminding all members that our memberships run for the calendar year and ask that we act to pay our fees earlier rather than later. Let's aim to do it in December/January, not June or July! We can now renew on-line and forget about paying cash at an event. Just click on 'About Us' and scroll down to Memberships to learn how to do it. 7 families have renewed already. Jump to it! Club Presentation Dinner 19-Nov-11: Our thanks yet again to Basil and Jean for hosting our Presentation Dinner evening at their welcoming home just outside Orange. Thanks also to David for his masterly production line at the BBQ! CSU Campus 6-Nov-11:An excellent attendance meant there was good company, good food and much for the club to celebrate. Awards were presented to many for their successes in club events, State League events and even International events (well Australia vs NZ, at least). So it was a happy finale to a good year for Goldseekers. We'll take a couple of months off before we start 2012 with the Summer Series in early February, and return to the forests and long grass in March!.
A fun event to wind up the Bush Series for this year - no points awarded for this one. Basil and Jean set up a relay event where each person on a three man team went out three times on rotation to find only two controls on each outing. Speed was the critical factor as the terrain was easy and the navigation not too demanding. (It was the hardest I had run all year!). The maps were cleverly arranged so that no two people out on the course were looking for the same two controls. Of the seven teams Phillip's put in the best performance. A lot of fun, thanks Basil and Jean! Ophir North 16-Oct-11: A beautiful day to be out orienteering. Russell's skilled work in plotting some challenging courses was complemented by the wonderful spring morning. He carefully allocated our limited SI gear so all competitors could enjoy an electronic timed Start and Finish, if not all the controls on their course. This also assisted the organiser's task in collecting the results. Ophir has an interesting history, our club name recognises the discovery of gold there, and today's longer courses took us around the Gunnadoo Gold Mine site. Oceania Winners:
Goldseekers, including Bridget Bennett (picture right), Jean and Basil Baldwin, managed to collect first places in the Australian and Oceania Championship held earlier this month in Victoria and NSW. Bridget took out the Long Distance Championship in the W17-20A class on Sat 8-Oct, and the team that included Jean Baldwin and Basil Baldwin won the W60A and M60A relays on Sun 9-Oct.
Other places of note include Kerry Bennett, who came 2nd in the M55AS Oceania Middle Distance and 4th in the Oceania Long Distance; Bridget Bennett who came 3rd in both the W18A Oceania Middle and Long Distance events and in the Australian Long Distance, Basil Baldwin came 5th in the M70A and Jean a respectable 6th in W65A. Others attending included Daniel Parton, Kevin Parton, Richard Carter and Elaine Bennett. Xmas 5 Days Tue 27 Dec to Sat 31 Dec 11: Location: Newcastle and Central Coast Region, NSW

Kahli's Rocks 4-Sep-11: A great Fathers' Day event with 36 starters, and a huge 'thank you' to the Baldwins for setting the courses and running the event while still suffering from the flu. Basil ran a 'static' coaching session using the map to help us discern the difference between small boulders and huge boulders, and high boulders from flat rock. Very worthwhile at that location! Yet again we welcomed some newcomers, and also our long distance friends - Jason from Penrith and the Hagans from Dubbo. Kahli's Rocks Results Oaky Creek South 7-Aug-11:
The weather failed to live down to the forecast, the location, one of our favourites, lived up to expectation, and Greg delivered some excellent courses. The upper reaches of Oaky Creek, which traverse the event area, were flowing freely after recent rain. We also welcomed some new starters to orienteering. Altogether a very enjoyable morning. Our thanks to Greg and Marianne for organising the event.
